FINNOVASIA – HKFin Tech Week

The upcoming main conference of the #HKFinTechWeek on Nov 6-7 will open up a curtain to one of the most anticipated projects of China’s central bank to launch its version of digital yuan. Our special guest speaker – Mr. Mu Chang Chun, Director-General of the Institute of Digital Currency, People’s Republic Bank of China (PBOC).

#China is the first major economy to explore launching its own digital currency and established a PBOC-backed research institute to study the field in 2016. The PBOC plans reportedly to make the coins available through four state-owned banks, as well as online payment platforms operated by tech giants #Tencent#ChinaUnionPay and #AntFinancial.

Graduated from Renmin University of China, Mr. Mu started his work for the People’s Bank of China in 1995. In 2019 it was reported that Mu Changchun officially became the Director of #Payments of the China’s central bank. Mu is also a member of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Senior Adviser Group on Financial Technology.

When Wall Street Met Main Street – Real vs Virtual Economy

This conference is in the 3rd Fintech Education Series, which aims to promote financial technology education in town.  This event is part of the core agenda of the HK FinTech Week 2019, Asia’s most anticipated international financial technology event, bringing together more than 10,000 executives, entrepreneurs, investors, regulators and academics from China, Asia and across the world.  We take advantage of this opportunity to bring together the academia and industry participants, providing a platform to carry out fruitful and productive discussions, encourage the exchange of ideas and promote future collaboration opportunities.

2019 marks the second anniversary of the Bachelor of Engineering programme in Financial Technology (FinTech) launched by CUHK, the first ever FinTech undergraduate programme in Hong Kong.  This is also the inauguration year of the Master of Science programme in Financial Technology.  With the talents in these programmes and the innovative ideas in the market, we see an all-win situation in bridging the University and the industry together.  It is beneficial for the students to widen their exposure and have more interactions with the industry.  Faculties can share their research results and seek partnership with fintech corporations.  Industry practitioners can leverage on the forefront research to take their fintech business some steps further.

The topics to be covered include:

  • AI and Machine Learning
