FINNOVASIA – HKFin Tech Week
The upcoming main conference of the #HKFinTechWeek on Nov 6-7 will open up a curtain to one of the most anticipated projects of China’s central bank to launch its version of digital yuan. Our special guest speaker – Mr. Mu Chang Chun, Director-General of the Institute of Digital Currency, People’s Republic Bank of China (PBOC).
#China is the first major economy to explore launching its own digital currency and established a PBOC-backed research institute to study the field in 2016. The PBOC plans reportedly to make the coins available through four state-owned banks, as well as online payment platforms operated by tech giants #Tencent, #ChinaUnionPay and #AntFinancial.
Graduated from Renmin University of China, Mr. Mu started his work for the People’s Bank of China in 1995. In 2019 it was reported that Mu Changchun officially became the Director of #Payments of the China’s central bank. Mu is also a member of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Senior Adviser Group on Financial Technology.
